It was a last minute travel plan in the truest sense .  And Luckily, for us ,the north eastern hills are only a nights train journey from Kolkata. From howrah we boarded the Kamrup express and with the rising sun we reached new jalpaiguri .  The only brother of seven sisters is Sikkim and this time during the Durga Puja holidays, our destination was in it's capital gangtok. Jeeps for gangtok are available from the njp station on shared or reserved basis . To cut the expenses we boarded local auto rickshaw for 30 rupees per passenger to reach Tenzing Norgay bus stand and immediately got a bus for gangtok.  Both private and government Buses ply frequently in this route with a fixed fare of only 200 per passenger. Passing by the malls hotels monastery and the salugara sal forests soon we reached the sevoke road .  Looking down the valley The teesta appeared so lively  , with its strong water current and fast flowing rage. The heavy rains in the monsoon raised its volume and infused it with a dangerously stunning look .  The journey through the not so smooth winding ways didn't seem to reach the terminating point . Tired by the night's journey, the occasional remnants of the landslides did give us a terrifying chill down the nerves .  As we ascended more , the foliage became greener , the roads appeared cleaner and the fresh air cooler . The rains made the hills come full of life with its vibrant blooms and narrow streams  throughout the way .  After a journey of six hours the buildings and the milestone signalled our arrival in Gangtok . After a failed attempt of getting a shared vehicle , we reserved a cab to reach MG Marg from Deorali bus stand in gangtok. For a distance of only two kms we had to shell out 300 rupees, otherwise it is only 30 rupees per passenge on shared vehicle.  Mahatma Gandhi Marg is the heart and soul of Gangtok, where there are ample options for lodging fooding and shopping . Crowded with happy faces, this happening place contagiously beams with joy .
