Tucked inside a locality , amidst a busy market place, lies in ignorance a small piece of history with its own grandeur and lost glory  Datia is located at around 25kms from jhansi and 75kms from gwalior .the town is connected by frequent trains and buses . The Datia palace resembles the Orchha fort and  is built in the Indo islamic style of architecture .  Interestingly this seven storeyed Satkhand Mahal built with utmost care and precision was never resided by its makers . The wall paintings and Frescos manage to peep the natural colours in its otherwise shabby outlook. It remained as an isolated architecture of the majestic days of Bundelkhand , whose openings, now give a glimpse, of the contrasting changing times of the outer world.  The Bundelkhand rulers had their capital in Tikamgarh, and later on shifted their capital to Orchha.  The greatest of the Orchha rulers , Veer Singh Deo helped Prince Salim to ascend the throne of the Mughals by assassinating Abu Fazal. After becoming Jahangir badshah, Prince Salim did not forget his friend's help and provided a lot of land to Vir Singh Deo . In those days more land means more revenue and with the money Vir Singh Deo built more than fifty monuments all over India  which includes the Jhansi fort and the seven storeyed Datia palace .
